The month of May marks European Diversity Month across the EU. We’re calling on Romanian companies and organisations to join forces with us, the European Commission, to shine a spotlight on the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in society by organising events and activities throughout May.

The European Diversity Month is organised by the EU Platform of Diversity Charters together with the national Charters and their signatories.

Its main aim is to bring together the national Diversity Charters, small and big employers, private companies, public organisations, non-profit associations around a common goal – to promote diversity in the workplace and in society.

It provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to diversity. By doing so, you will join thousands of companies all over the EU who will be also organising events, training; running awareness-raising campaigns, etc.

Whether you are signatory of the Romanian Diversity Charter or not, this is a month to celebrate and promote diversity at the workplace and in society, to raise awareness on benefits of diversity and inclusion and show what this means for your organisation.

You too can get involved, celebrate, and raise awareness in your organisation with organising an internal event for or with your employees or an open event to public, customers, or suppliers.

Promoting diversity and creating inclusive workplaces is a continuous work but taking part of the Diversity Month is a fantastic opportunity to make it visible.

Get involved

This is your organization’s chance to take a stand and promote diversity and inclusion. Organise activities or events during the month of May: promote your company’s diversity and inclusion policies to staff at workshops or on social media with #EUDiversityMonth for example. Why not use this month as a springboard to develop new initiatives to take your company forward?

You can organise virtual or hybrid awareness raising workshops for employees, round tables with experts, publish a diversity cookbook, run a social media campaign, collaborate with a non-profit organisation or volunteer – be creative in making diversity in your organisation visible.

Important dates

To mark the EU Diversity Month 2024, the Romanian Diversity Charter will host on May 30th its first D&I Human Library Event for its signatories. This project is a collaborative effort among signatory organizations, aimed at creating a safe and authentic space for open dialogue on D&I topics between “human books” and their “readers”.

Having operated the Charter for six years now, we recognize the importance for our signatory organizations to engage in personal exchanges with peer organizations facing similar challenges in their D&I journeys. The D&I Human Library, initiated by the Charter, will serve as a powerful tool to effectively promote diversity, challenge discrimination, and advance the D&I agenda of our signatories.

The European Commission will hold a high-level event on Diversity on 25yh of April 2024 with the Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, where the winners of the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award will be announced and EU Diversity Month 2024 will be officially opened. This event will bring together cities and regions, policymakers, diversity managers, chief executive officers of diversity charter signatories, other organisations and stakeholders. This year’s European Diversity month focuses on how we can embrace diversity and inclusion in the workplace to help meet the challenges organisations are facing and meet the demands of the future of work.
